Assets

Controller

A disk controller for a physical machine in a datacenter

Disk

A disk in a physical machine in a datacenter

Machine

A machine (compute instance) running on the Global Infrastructure, virtual or physical (bare-metal). A machine is provisioned with a chosen operating system (Linux or Windows), can be powered on/off, rebooted, screenshotted and deleted, and exposes its observed state. A virtual machine has a configurable number of vCPUs, memory, a system disk sized by the operating system and optional additional data disks, all of which can be grown in place (shrinking CPU or memory requires a power-cycle). A physical machine is discovered from inventory and assigned out of band, exposes a full hardware inventory, and has its sizing and network fixed by the hardware, so it cannot be updated in place. A machine's identity (name, operating system, datacenter) is fixed for its lifetime.

Physical Machine

[DEPRECATED — use the 'machine' asset instead. Retained temporarily for backward compatibility and to be removed once consumers have migrated.] A physical machine in a datacenter, including OS, disks, status, and network configuration.

Prefix

Prefixes are provided by GI compute services

Unassigned Host

An unassigned host is a host that is available for assignment, it is present in netbox under status 'Inventory'

Virtual Machine

[DEPRECATED — use the 'machine' asset instead. Retained temporarily for backward compatibility and to be removed once consumers have migrated.] A virtual machine running in an infrastructure, with memory, CPU, partitions, and volumes.

Vlan

A VLAN configuration including datacenter, environment, role, and networking details.

Volume

A volume for a physical machine in a datacenter, including raid type, controller id, information about physical disks.

Vrf

A Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) instance containing routing and IP management metadata.
